Nicholas Daley Premieres Short Film Paying Homage to Martial Arts and ‘70s Reggae
‘Stepping Razors’ showcases the designer’s SS21 collection.
As a part of this season’s digital London Fashion Week, British designer Nicholas Daley has revealed Stepping Razors, a short-film showcasing his new Spring/Summer 2021 menswear collection, and celebrating both martial arts and 1970s reggae.
Daley — who released the accompanying SS21 lookbook shortly after last year’s virtual fashion week — has tapped into the rich world of kung-fu movies for Stepping Razors to pay tribute to the warrior spirit of reggae legend and martial arts enthusiast Peter Tosh.
Starring Jordan Thomas — the U.K.’s first Olympic karateka and former world and european champion — the film channels the visual texture of the era’s cinema, with multi-screen layouts, karate kata posters and bold graphics.
British reggae producer Dennis Bovell provides the film’s soundtrack, a feature that continues to play a vital role in all of Daley’s collections, driving the energy and atmosphere of each and every release.
Nicholas Daley’s SS21 collection is available to buy now from the brand’s online webstore.
