Balenciaga Opens Pre-Orders for $1,035 USD LED Frame Sunglasses
The statement-making shades from SS20 are finally here.
In September 2019, Demna Gvasalia‘s Balenciaga previewed the LED sunglasses that debuted on its Spring/Summer 2020 Paris Fashion Week runway, and now the pair is finally ready to release for FW21.
The black shades are made from injected nylon with nylon lenses that are also tinted black, serving us 1999 The Matrix energy with its Y2K shape that treads the line between fashion and irony. Of course, the sunglasses pack 100% UVA/UVB protection, but you’re not wearing these to protect yourself from the sun — it’s all about the LED function.
Balenciaga has designed its logo to appear as a color-changing LED, illuminated in colors such as blue, red, or flickering between various shades. The LED system only appears on the left temple, while another logo has been lasered into the right lens. To keep the colors going, Balenciaga includes a USB cable that plugs into the sunglasses allowing you to charge them — although no word has been said on how long one charge will last.
Retailing for $1,035 USD, the Balenciaga LED Frame Sunglasses in black are available to pre-order online now. Take a closer look at the pair above.
