BBC and Netflix‘s Peaky Blinders is coming to end with its sixth season.

According to reports, production for the final season has begun and will be written by creator Steven Knight, while season five director Anthony Byrne will return behind the camera alongside producer Nick Goding. “Peaky is back and with a bang,” Knight said in a statement. “After the enforced production delay due to the COVID pandemic, we find the family in extreme jeopardy and the stakes have never been higher. We believe this will be the best series of all and are sure that our amazing fans will love it. While the TV series will be coming to an end, the story will continue in another form.”

Executive producer Caryn Mandabach added, “Along with our wonderful, supportive partners at BBC and Netflix, we have been working diligently to ensure we can get Peaky safely back into production; the safety of our cast and crew is always our priority. Thank you to all the Peaky fans who have been so unwaveringly supportive and patient. Steve’s scripts are incredible and mark the end of an epic story that has entranced audiences since it first started in 2013, but the world of Peaky Blinders will most definitely live on.”

First premiering in 2013, Peaky Blinders is set in post-World War I Birmingham, England and follows the Shelby crime family, led by Cillian Murphy‘s Tommy Shelby. He’s joined by family members like Aunt Polly Gray (Helen McCrory), Arthur Shelby, Jr. (Paul Anderson), Johnny Shelby (Joe Cole), Ada Thorne (Sophie Rundle), Grace Shelby (Annabelle Wallis) and Lizzie Shelby (Natasha O’Keeffe) as they expand their criminal organization both locally and internationally. The series has won three BAFTA Awards, including Best Drama Series.

Elsewhere in entertainment, Netflix’s “Shuffle Play” option will launch worldwide this 2021.
