After taking on several collaborative partnerships in 2020, industry stalwart Concepts is ready to jump start the new year with Converse for a Chuck 70 Hi and All Star BB Evo collection that honors the humble origins of basketball.
Back in December of 1891 in Springfield, Massachusetts, college teacher James Naismith found himself in an unusual situation in which he had to somehow entertain his students who had been forced to remain indoors because of inclement weather. A lightbulb then flicked on in his brain as he decided to take two peach baskets and nail them 10 feet above the floor. Shortly afterwards, Naismith split the kids up into two teams of nine, took a soccer ball and tossed up the first tip-off and it was in that moment that basketball was born.
Fast forward 130 years later, and Concepts and Converse have crafted two peach-inspired colorways that honor the birth of the sport. The throwback silhouette in the Chuck 70 is executed with all-over orange-red gradients that resemble the juicy fruit’s skin, and comes packaged with up green laces that have been given fuzzy textures. One star patches in the medial panels alternate between white backgrounds and green lettering, and the lower heel’s branded tabs split between “Concepts” on the left and the traditional Converse banner on the right. Additional Concepts branding splits between the gradient insoles.
Its release sibling — the All Star BB Evo — is designed to be translate that of a ripening peach. Base layers are primarily hued with a bright green and come prepared with tiny gradient orange splashes located towards the heels. Branding splits between Concepts’ namesake on the lateral rear, while “Converse” adorns the medial side, in addition to the right tongue which dons a “C” while the left tongue shows off the One Star insignia.
Looking to cop? Both pairs will be available on January 28 at Concepts, Converse, and other participating stockists. The Chuck 70 will be priced at $120 USD and the All Star BB Evo will cost you $140 USD.
Elsewhere in footwear, the Converse “Chinese New Year” collection has been unveiled.
