Nike, Jordan Brand and Converse's 2021 "Chinese New Year" Collection Is Inspired by a Temple Fair
Featuring the Air Jordan 1 Low OG, Air Jordan 5 Low, Nike Dunk Low, Kyrie 7, Chuck 70 and more.
Chinese New Year is but a few weeks away, and so Nike, Jordan Brand and Converse have come together to prepare an extensive and cohesive range of footwear and apparel in honor of the festivities. The entire capsule is expressive of color schemes and materials drawn from a joyous temple fair, and is showcased through three different themes: the explosive firecracker, the artisanal Chinese knot and the naturalistic spring blossom.
Contributions from the Swoosh family include a blend of silhouettes both from the past and the present. Leading the way are the Dunk Low OG and the women’s Dunk Low Disrupt, both of which come decorated with firecracker packaging patterns, wrinkle-paper textures, fuse-inspired laces and warning-label graphics. Nike’s Kyrie 7, Air Max 2090, SuperRep 2 and Blazer Mid ‘77 make an appearance, all of which have been reimagined with Chinese knot-like characteristics. If you peep the tongues of some of the models included here, you’ll notice that they have been altered to look like that of a temple fair ticket. Elsewhere, the Air Max Verona and Nike Blazer Mid Rebel also show face, both offerings being executed with pink and white palettes inspired by peonies and orchids.
On deck from the Jumpman are four fresh takes atop the Air Jordan 1 Low OG, the Air Jordan 5 Low, Air Jordan 35 and the Jordan Delta Breathe. The former retro release features Bred-style color-blocking, wears Jacquard Year of the Ox patterns, and comes packaged with a collectible card and lotus root tassels, while the latter is presented with a cleaner sail scheme whose wear-away upper conceals a hidden firecracker packaging design. The Air Jordan 35 also features signature black and red hues and tear-away capabilities, while the Jordan Delta Breathe sports floral patterns emblematic of a springtime blossom.
Offer ups from the One Star imprint include three new iterations of the ever-classic Chuck 70. Each of the high-profile installments distinctly hone in on the aforementioned motifs and implement various all-over decor from quilted patchwork to woven knot patterns to bright orange uppers contrasted with a firecracker graphic heel.
Accompanying the kicks is a full range of apparel items that vary from hoodies and jackets from Nike Sportswear, specially-crafted Liverpool FC kit, pieces from Kyrie Irving‘s line, as well as men’s jackets and a dress for women that is representative of a traditional Chinese costume.
Nike’s inline products will begin to roll out starting on January 1. Jordan Brand‘s sneaker offerings including the Air Jordan 5 Low drops on January 14 while the Air Jordan I Low OG launches January 31. CNY colorways of the Converse Chuck 70 will hit the shelves on January 21.
