Nike Updates the Classic Waffle Racer for New D/MS/X Waffle Silhouette
A masterfully modernized take on one of the Swoosh’s earliest sneakers.
Nike‘s conceptual D/MS/X sub-line is responsible for striking designs like the Air Force 1 React and React Vision, but for its latest effort it’s molded the epochal Waffle Racer into a new silhouette dubbed the D/MS/X Waffle. Bringing Blue Ribbon Sports and Bill Bowerman‘s timeless innovation into a new decade, the D/MS/X Waffle is equal parts past and present — and is dressed in a striking “Starfish Orange/Pine Green” color scheme to boot.
Uppers are split in both material and hue, with a shape that nods directly to Nike’s Sting. Toeboxes and eyestays take on a smooth orange nubuck, with quarters using gridded green nylon. Green suede swathes the heel counter, white leather is applied to the Swooshes and heel tabs/tongues are done up in white nylon. Black Nike and D/MS/X text hits on the tongue and heel work with the aforementioned Swoosh to handle the shoe’s branded flair.
Lower halves may be simpler in color but are equally as striking in build. White EVA foam is sculpted into a two-piece design and bolstered with bright blue TPU piping that bends at the heel. On the outsole, Bowerman’s signature waffle nubs are done up in a timeless gum to round off the style.
The Nike D/MS/X Waffle Racer is available at Nike China now, and retails for ¥799 CNY (approximately $117 USD).
