adidas Spezial Offers Another Archive-Inspired FW20 Collection

After drawing on the look and lineage of British Soul for its Spring/Summer collection, adidas Spezial returns for Fall/Winter 2020 with a selection of terrace-inspired contemporary apparel and archive-inspired footwear.

Curated and designed by Gary Aspden, this latest offering has once again taken notes from the rich adidas archives, a move that sees brand classics reworked for 2020.

The Haslingden jacket has been reintroduced this season, a garment widely regarded as one of the brand’s most popular silhouettes. Building on previous releases, this rework arrives in a super lightweight fabric and three-striped branding, in a jet black colorway.

A second jacket comes in a bold gold colorway, and takes inspiration from the silhouettes of the Standard Training garments of the ‘70s and ‘80s. Named the ST11, the materials and fit have been reimagined for this season, resulting in a boxier fit with premium fabrics. A Mod Trefoil sweater, logo T-shirt, track pants and cargo green shorts complete the apparel, while a panel cap in a warm beige makes up this season’s accessories.

Bay wears the SL Haslingden – produced in a super light (hence the SL name) black ripstop, the same fit as the iconic Haslingden jacket. Features tonal 3 stripe tape branding with hidden poppers on the pockets, hidden storm flap under the collar, an adjustable waistband and custom ‘Made for Spezial’ buttons. The Standish short is a cargo short based on the fit of the Aldwych short. They are produced in a very slightly elasticated plain weave with belt loops and a tonal 3 stripe tape on the pocket. The new cap is an adjustable multiple panel with 3 eyelet vent holes on either side. The footwear is the HRMNY SPZL a new Torsion runner. More info on those to follow. Footwear releases are led by the HRMNY SPZL, a lesser known release from the original Torsion range. Based on the adidas Harmony, it was originally a women’s shoe that has been reworked into a wider men’s fitting and given a complete overhaul on the colour palette and materials.

The Newrad SPZL is this season’s leisure shoe, a light brown nubuck built offering sat on a Bermuda tooling and finished with an embossed ‘Mod Trefoil’ patch on the lateral side. The Alderley SPZL is a new adidas Spezial hybrid court shoe that takes the foundations of its design from the mesh and foxing of the Rod Laver Vintage, but heads into new territory with a distinctive perforated leather toe, ‘U’ mesh insert in the perforated tongue and heel guard. Finishing the FW20 collection is Spezial’s take on the adilette slides which feature a debossed logo and spezial branding.
