Curated by Gary Aspden — brand consultant and designer — Spezial is dedicated to creating and reworking premium editions of adidas products from the brand’s archives.
The “Ash Blue” Standish Anorak and “Spice Yellow” Holbeck Jacket are two of this season’s outerwear options, while the knitted Newsam long-sleeved polo is an updated version of short-sleeved iteration from Fall/Winter 2019. The Pleckgate Tracksuit — arguably the hero piece of the apparel — is based on the fit of the Forest Gate, a classic, loose-fitting tracksuit from the Spring/Summer 2017 collection.
The footwear selection consists of four styles: The Ashhurst SPZL, coming in shades of grey and pops of yellow, is based on the adidas Sydney from the City Running Series, while the beige and green Lotherton SPZL takes inspiration from the Ardwick SPZL silhouette, a sneaker from the brand’s very first collection.
The Training 76 SPZL, a low profile sneaker that takes its lead from the Japanese version of the adidas Berlin, and the Zurro SPZL, that has an electric blue upper based on the vintage adidas Azzurro and the Montreal 76, complete the footwear offering.
Accessories include a towel, socks and a crisp, white bucket hat that adorns both of the brand logos. The adidas SPEZIAL SS20 collection launches globally on June 12th and will be available from the adidas web store.
