Jay Worthy and Shlohmo Premiere New "Ride" Music Video
Featuring Bone Thugs-N-Harmony legend Krayzie Bone.
Jay Worthy is having a more than notable run in 2020, releasing a number of solid EPs and switching his style up with ease through new experimentation with producers like Harry Fraud and now WEDIDIT collective founder Shlohmo. Today they return with a new visual for “Ride” featuring Krayzie Bone. The music video, helmed by @snicksilva, is a mixed media collage of stock footage, unfinished png files and counting money.
With their Till The Morning EP, Worthy’s flow is accentuated with Shlohmo’s otherworldly soundscapes for something wholly unexpected. “The first time I met Shlohmo was at this crazy art party — A$AP Nast asked me to come perform our unreleased songs we had together — I think this was late 2018. I didn’t know what Shlohmo even looked like but he approached me and said, ‘Oh sh*t I f*ck with your music and it’s so crazy that you’re here.’ We ended up clicking and next thing you know I was going over to his house and recording,” Worthy said to HYPEBEAST about first connecting with the producer.
If his and Harry Fraud‘s Eat When You’re Hungry Sleep When You’re Tired project was an homage to the past with 80s synths and 90s boom-bap samples, then Worthy and Shlohmo tapped into the future with surrealist and dreamlike instrumentation as the foundation. “If I remember correctly, our first session we did two records and he really liked them. I believe they were “You Know” and “Mama Used to Say,” Worthy said. “Then in 2019 I was hopping back and forth from his spot to Paramount Studios as The Game was working on his album and we wrapped up the next in a couple session. One thing I’ll say that working with Shloh was real comfortable and I wasn’t afraid to try new things like singing, melodies and sh*t like that. He pulled some great stuff out of me.”
Bone Thugs-N-Harmony member Krayzie Bone makes an appearance here, too. The veteran was the lone vocal feature on the seven track project. “Me and Krayzie been working now for a minute since he was on my debut album Aktive (as LNDN DRGS) so it’s kind of a tradition now to have him on my projects,” Worthy continued. “He’s a legend! First time I heard Bone Thugs was ‘Crossroads’ just like every one else prolly, but they immediately became one of my favorite groups of all time. My favorite Bone song… That’s hard but I’ma say ‘P.O.D.’ or ‘Mr. Bill Collector.’ It’s too many, man.”
As for what’s next, Jay Worthy revealed that he’s working on two more EPs to round out 2020, the first being a collaboration with Dâm-Funk and the second a return to his LNDN DRGS roots. “I approached this project the same way I do with anything — keep an open mind and try to conquer another EP with a unique sound — something different then the others but that was easy with Shloh ’cause his sh*t so original and different than my sh*t.”
