DC FanDome's 'Black Adam' Teaser Sheds Light on Anti-Hero's Origin
Returning to the world after 5,000 years in prison.
Over the weekend, DC Comics‘ 24-hour virtual event DC FanDome offered superhero and comic book fans a massive amount of news and updates, one of which was an all-new teaser trailer for the upcoming Black Adam during its own panel with Dwayne Johnson, who’ll play the titular anti-hero himself.
The minute-long clip — which you can watch above — was created by DC Comics legend Jim Lee together with BossLogic, and gives a brief run-through of the character’s origin story. Born in the fictional nation of Kahndaq as a slave 5,000 years ago, Black Adam eventually gained his powers to fight against his masters but was struck down and imprisoned by the ancient Egyptian wizard Shazam. Now, five millennia later, he has once again been set free into the world.
Aside from the teaser, Johnson also shared the reasons why he’s so drawn to the anti-hero during the panel. “As we all know, Black Adam is one of the most powerful superheroes, anti-heroes, villains — whatever you want to call Black Adam — he is one of the most powerful in the DC universe,” he said. “But as we all know, the superheroes, they have to exhibit a little bit of restraint, when it comes to taking care of the bad guys, if you will, or taking care of the people who are opposite them who are opposing them who are in their way. But this idea that you could take all of Black Adams powers, and he does not practice restraint — that makes for a really powerful combination, and one that’s explosive one that’s very dangerous, and one that is ultimately, I think, very likable, to me at least.”
In other entertainment news, Ridley Scott’s Raised by Wolves just released its second trailer.
