Kehlani Continues Her Quarantine Style Visuals With "Bad News" Video
This time flaunting pistols and wedding gowns.
Kehlani returns once again with another single from her 2020 sophomore album It Was Good Until It Wasn’t album entitled “Bad News.” Directed by Hyphy Williams (aka Kehlani herself), the R&B singer-songwriter wears an elegant wedding dress and veil that is emphasized with the vignette’s black and white visuals. She can further be seen sitting in a car, drinking, smoking, cocking a pistol, and more. “Make you wanna give all that s— up / Make you wanna leave that world behind / Make you wanna see your name on mine,” the artist sings, signaling a toxic relationship with her lyrics and her actions.
In a previous interview with Apple Music, the artists stated that she was “kind of in a relationship that has put me in a space of almost processing my parents a little bit.” She then added that her father previously passed away from a “gang-related situation” when she was young and that she “started diving into [that] headspace with the music I was making.” Kehlani’s It Was Good Until It Wasn’t serves as the follow-up to her 2017 debut SweetSexySavage.
The music video was shot similarly to her previous “quarantine style” singles like “F&MU,” “Everybody Business,” and “Toxic,” albeit with a much grander production budget. “Bad News” also marks her fifth video drop during the quarantine. She, alongside Tyler, the Creator, J Balvin, The Strokes, and more are also expected to headline 2021’s Outside Lands show.
