Yelp Launches Tool to Search for Black-Owned Businesses
As well as donating to the Equal Justice Initiative and the NAACP Legal Defense Fund.

Yelp has announced plans for a new function allowing businesses to identify as Black-owned. The move — announced by CEO Jeremy Stoppelman in a recent blog post — allows Yelp users to search the app for Black-owned businesses, and comes after a huge increase in similar searches across various industries in recent weeks.
Additionally, Yelp is to donate $500,000 USD to the Equal Justice Initiative and the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, as well as doubling its pledge to match donations from employees to Black-led or Black-serving institutions throughout June. Finishing off the blog post, Stoppelman also committed to providing additional paid mental health days and organizing virtual events to support the San Francisco-based company’s Black employees.
In related news, Nike CEO John Donahoe has released a memo telling employees of the company’s need to “get our own house in order” on racism.
