UPDATE (June 2, 2020): Sony has decided to postpone the PlayStation 5 event that was meant to air on June 4, saying in a statement that the company “[does] not feel that right now is a time for celebration and for now, we want to stand back and allow more important voices to be heard.”

The company was planning to unveil a host of games and real gameplay footage surrounding the release of the PS5. However, following a week of unrest and protests after the killing of George Floyd, Sony has decided to not go ahead with the hourlong livestream.

Sony Interactive Entertainment also issued a statement on Twitter, adding “We denounce systemic racism and violence against the Black community. We will continue to work toward a future marked by empathy and inclusion and stand with our Black creators, players, employees, families, and friends. #BlackLivesMatter.”

Original Story (June 1, 2020): Sony has announced that it will be live streaming an event about the upcoming PlayStation 5, its games and gameplay, later this month.

The event is expected to showcase a host of new game titles coming to the PS5 and will offer a glimpse at real gameplay. PlayStation boss Jim Ryan said in a blog post, “the games coming to PS5 represent the best in the industry from innovative studios that span the globe. Studios, both larger and smaller, those newer and those more established, all have been hard at work developing games that will showcase the potential of the hardware.”

Sony’s event is just the latest in a series of PS5 updates that are expected to air from now until the game console’s release date. Previously, Sony has shared details about its DualSense controller, as well as some information about the PS5’s hardware.

Tune in to Sony’s livestream via Twitch or YouTube on June 4 at 1 p.m. PDT / 9 p.m. BST / 10 p.m. CEST to find out more about what’s coming to the PS5.
