Watch Benny The Butcher Perform His Favorite 'The Plugs I Met' Tracks from His Couch
Continuing NPR’s Tiny Desk (Home) Concert series.
Benny The Butcher put out one of last year’s best hip-hop projects with The Plugs I Met, an offering that pushed the Buffalo, New York rapper into the conversation as one of the best lyricists in the business. His collaboration with Pusha T, “18 Wheeler” is a modern day drug trafficking turned rap opulence classic. Today Benny returns for a live performance from the comfort of his living room couch courtesy of NPR’s Tiny Desk (Home) Concert.
NPR has shifted its performance programming due to the coronavirus pandemic, but often times the intimacy that artists give makes the viewing even more worthwhile. Black Thought appeared in his home studio to premiere three new songs back in April. For this episode, Benny opens with his hit “Crown for Kings”, Tana Talk 3‘s “Rubber Bands & Weight”. Next up is his “Da Mob” single from his Black Soprano Family compilation featuring Rick Hyde and Heem. He revisits “Cruiser Weight Coke” from Griselda‘s WWCD and rounds out the performance with “5 to 50”.
