Original 'Cowboy Bebop' Band Virtually Perform Theme Song "Tank!"
3, 2, 1, let’s jam.
The opening theme of Cowboy Bebop is undeniably one of the most iconic intros in television, so the SEATBELTS, the original band that recorded the theme, virtually came together to perform the jazz number “Tank!” for fans.
Led by instrumentalist Yoko Kanno, the band shared the session on YouTube complete with all the instruments involved, ranging from the drums to the double bass, trumpets, saxophones, shakers, flutes and guitars. While the original theme song clocks in at just under two minutes, the SEATBELTS gave everyone a treat with an extended four-minute performance.
The influence of Cowboy Bebop zooms past its original release in the late 90s, with Netflix currently working on a live-action series starring John Cho as Spike Spiegel, Mustafa Shakir as Jet Black, Daniella Pineda as Faye Valentine and a real corgi playing Ein. Cho’s on-set injury in October 2019 further delayed the show by seven to nine months, and a release date is yet to be announced.
