Jill Scott and Erykah Badu graced Instagram Live in the latest installment of Timbaland and Swizz Beatz‘s VERZUZ series.
Although there was a bit of a delay due to technical difficulties from Badu’s side, the lengthy 19-round episode heard the two neo-soul legends play both their biggest hits and most underrated tracks, starting off with each other’s live and album versions of The Roots‘ “You Got Me” to “On & On,” “Whenever You’re Around,” “Time’s a Wastin,” “Green Eyes, “Cross My Mind,” “Slowly, Surely” and “Bag Lady.”
The exciting event transformed from a battle to an evening of appreciation as Badu and Scott shared stories in between rounds and offered each other genuine praise. The livestream garnered around 700,000 viewers, including former First Lady Michelle Obama who tagged Barack Obama during Scott’s “Crown Royal.”
