Snapchat teamed up with Damien Hirst on a new lens inspired by the acclaimed British artist’s Spin Paintings. The collaborative filter is now globally available, allowing users to virtually create their own spin paintings in the comfort of their homes.

“It’s amazing to be working with Snapchat on this totally mega spin art lens and making it possible for millions of people to make their own spin paintings right from their phones. I’m so happy that this partnership also supports Partners in Health, a brilliant and forward-thinking organisation that helps communities in developing countries around the world cope with the devastating impact of COVID-19,” expressed Hirst in a statement.

Hirst first experimented with spin art back in 1992 at his studio in Brixton, London. He developed his first series of Spin Paintings in 1994 while living in Berlin. During the artist’s inaugural exhibition of these abstract works, he invited attendees to create their own drawings on a spin machine.

Snapchat also worked with Partners in Health on this lens experience to support their COVID-19 relief efforts. Learn more about the Damien Hirst x Snapchat lens by watching the video above.

Elsewhere in art, Roy Lichtenstein’s Brushstroke painting is expect to fetch $30 million USD at an upcoming Sotheby’s auction.
