'SNL' Unveils Middle-Aged Mutant Ninja Turtles Animated Spoof
Featuring a parodied opening theme.
Saturday Night Live has returned with a brand new episode. It’s the first time in over a month that the comedy series aired as production closed down due to the coronavirus pandemic. Without the usual big productions and setups, SNL cast members had to do their sketches remotely. One of the great things to come out of this is a spoof on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, imagined as boring, out-of-shape middle-aged versions.
The animated sketch was written by Steven Castillo, Kyle Mooney, and Dan Bulla. It shows Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello, and Raphael as dulled suburbanites who are depressed because of their monotonous lives. The spoof even comes with a parodied opening scene, showing a series of clips of each character going about their unexciting routines. According to Castillo, both the writing and animation were all completed in less than a week.
