Kenya Barris and Rashida Jones Star in New Netflix Series '#blackAF'
The mockumentary-style comedy from Barris is streaming now.
Kenya Barris, the creator of Black-Ish and Grown-ish, is delivering a new single-camera mockumentary-style comedy titled #blackAF. Starring Barris alongside Rashida Jones, the story is inspired by Kenya’s own experience raising a family of six kids and his irreverent, highly flawed real-life marriage. The show is a contemporary take on parenting, relationships, race and culture. Streaming on Netflix now, the raw, unfiltered, dysfunctional, self-aware and timely series is unlike any other show before.
As its title suggests, the series is reimagining the family sitcom in a modern, unapologetically black context. Highlighting the duality of the black experience — in both an ironic sense and an aspirational one — #blackAF finds space for vulnerability and dealing with insecurity in a relatable manner. The show is sure to be thought-provoking in its comedic voice, tapping into the very real nuances of black culture and the conflict between newfound success and the pressure it can create in a family dynamic.
Check out the official trailer above and head to Netflix now to stream #blackAF.
