EXCLUSIVE: BAPE STORE NYC Celebrates 15th Anniversary With Heritage-Inspired Collection
Reviving some of the Japanese brand’s original artwork.
Thought December 12 was the actual 15th anniversary of BAPE‘s New York City flagship store, the Japanese label is again spotlighting perhaps its most-famous American location with another commemorative capsule. This time, the stalwart brand is reviving a selection of its classic graphics, bolstered by a few new touches.
Along with another opportunity to nab the recent Shaun Crawford tees, fans will be able to purchase goods bearing some of BAPE’s retro graphics, including some that haven’t been made available for purchase in many years. These include hoodies and tees emblazoned with the classic “A Bathing Ape Generals” image, showcasing characters directly inspired by Planet of the Apes, a crucial inspiration for brand founder NIGO.
Other throwback prints include an APE HEAD wearing the Statue of Liberty’s crown, a nod to the original design created to celebrate the NYC store’s launch, accompanied by a stylized take on the same image. Various goods feature “15th Anniversary BAPE STORE New York” verbiage, but every hoodie, sweater and tee sports the shop’s actual address — 91 Greene Street, New York USA — to reinforce the commemorative motif.
Expect the celebratory NYC capsule to hit BAPE’s American web store on April 18.
Of course, BAPE is also launching many more contemporary graphic efforts in time for summer.
