Louis Vuitton has re-purposed its Parisian Ready-to-Wear atelier to produce hospital gowns for those working on the frontline of the coronavirus pandemic.

The news follows Louis Vuitton’s recent move into producing hundreds of thousands of non-surgical face masks, supporting those most in need during the battle against COVID-19. Now, Louis Vuitton has transformed its rue du Pont Neuf headquarters into a factory producing gowns for staff at six Parisian hospitals of the “Assistance Publique — Hôpitaux de Paris” operation (AP-HP), which specifically takes care of patients affected by COVID-19.

Louis Vuitton has said that 20 volunteers have been taken on board to undertake the task of producing thousands of gowns. The gowns are made using AP-HP approved fabrics and patterns, and will be gifted to the following six outposts: Université Paris-Saclay — Hôpital Antoine-Béclère in Clamart; Hôpital Bicêtre in Kremlin-Bicêtre; Hôpital Paul-Brousse in Villejuif; Hôpital Ambroise-Paré in Boulogne-Billancourt; Hôpital Raymond-Poincaré in Garches, and Hôpital Sainte-Périne in Paris’ 16th arrondissement.

As of next week, more voluntary Louis Vuitton pattern cutters will be working from home to assist the atelier’s gown production. Speaking on the occasion, Michael Burke, Louis Vuitton chairman and CEO said in a press statement, “We are proud to be able to help healthcare professionals at our level and put our know-how at the disposal of the Hôpitaux de Paris to create gowns for medical staff. I would like to thank the artisans of our atelier who voluntarily participate in this civic act and who have been bravely applying themselves since this morning to equip healthcare workers in hospitals who are in need of gowns.”

In other news, HOKA ONE ONE has pledged to donate 5,000 pairs of shoes to medical workers fighting the current pandemic.
