Versace Submits Black Leather Derbys to BDSM
Continuing to perpetuate fetish in fashion.
Versace‘s latest black leather derby shoes with BDSM straps comes as no surprise from the brand that has been perpetuating fetish in fashion since the 1990s. In a recently published HYPEBEAST editorial on BDSM and streetwear, it notes: “menswear has its own history of borrowing from kink culture… [i]t began in the realm of the submissive in BDSM culture and became an aesthetic in and of itself.”
The derbys’ outer and lining composition are both crafted in 100% leather, staying true to its shoe category with a typical rounded toe and open lace-up front, the latter a result of its shoelace outlets placed atop its vamp. Dominated by BDSM inspiration, the Italian fashion house adds harness-looking straps over the derbys’ lateral side and across its front, with silver-tone hardware that is reminiscent of the punk rock-popularized double grommet leather belt. Finally everything is placed atop an elevated 100% rubber sole with blue-lined insole and a red Versace Medusa’s head facing its outer base.
