Under Armour Curry 7 "Pi Day" PE Celebrates Steph Curry's Birthday
With a laceless, no-frills design.
Golden State Warriors superstar Steph Curry‘s birthday falls on March 14, so every year Under Armour pays homage to the potent point guard with a special “Pi Day” makeup of the latest model in his signature line. Although these have typically landed on the loud and colorful “party shoe” end of the spectrum in years past, Chef Curry wanted to keep it low-key for his 32nd birthday. Therefore, his brand-new Curry 7 “Pi Day” PE for 2020 offers a no-frills design.
Dressed in a simple black and white colorway, the key design point of the “Pi Day” is its laceless upper. This sock-like top half boasts a mesh construction overlaid with leather on the toebox and midfoot. It’s also completely devoid of branding, save for Curry’s signature “30” logo on the tongue’s pull tab. Heel tabs then feature the first 30 digits of Pi for a simultaneous nod to Steph’s jersey number and the memorable mathematical constant alike.
Although the “Pi Day” may be geared towards casual wear, it’s certainly not bereft of performance features. Midsoles are split evenly between HOVR and Micro G cushioning tech, separated by a flexible black plastic plate. Outsoles finalize the look by combining herringbone and circular traction patterns.
“Stephen is all about ease of entry with his footwear, and a casual slip-on take of the Curry 7 for his to and from the court movements was something we knew he’d like.” said Under Armour footwear design director John Humphrey. “We had the idea while finalizing the Curry 7 and reviewing knit placements for the upper. We thought, what about a full knit collar PE? Something clean, understated for Stephen to wear off-court. We just didn’t know then that he’d like the PE so much that he’d ask us to release it!”
The UA Curry 7 “Pi Day” PE will hit the UA webstore and select retailers on March 14 for $140 USD.
