Pop Trading Company and Camper Drop Collaborative Sneakers Steeped in Skate Tradition

Pop Trading Company and Camper have come together for a footwear collection inspired by puffy retro skateboarding shoes. Consisting of conceptual takes on the Runner XL and Chasis Chukka boot in two colorways each, the assemblage is accompanied by a Gulliver’s Travels-esque “The Miniature World” campaign, created by London-based skateboarder and artist Jethro Haynes.
Each unisex silhouette is designed for “different moments,” according to Camper. The Runner XL arrives in a stark gray makeup that’s accented with warm orange mesh and tinged with red trim, plus a rich navy style with silver piping and a sporty blue sockliner. It’s made of soft puffed leather, sturdy fabrics and interior elastics for a true retro skate shoe feel.
Meanwhile, the Chasis Chukka is presented in supple red or white leathers, with a raised toebox seam and contrasting Camper logo patch on the heel. Toothed rubber outsoles are surrounded by crepe foxing tape to finalize the hybrid style.
“We have a really cool back story on this,” said Pop’s Peter Kolks. “The shoes were designed with Job Willemsen, whom I grew up skating with in the little village I’m from. He’s now one of the main designers at Camper. The shoes are based on old Axion Aries and Karl Watson’s signature i-Path Cat. The whole thing is a big nostalgia play, ’cause we used to skate in these tech shoes and then put on our chillers [afterwards].”
The Pop Trading Co x Camper Runner XL and Chasis Chukka Boot will release on the Camper webstore come April 6. MSRPs have yet to be announced.
