Pixar Shares Official Trailer for 'Soul' Starring Jamie Foxx
Slated to hit theaters this June.
Pixar has shared the official trailer for its upcoming movie Soul, which stars Jamie Foxx as the lead character Joe Gardner. In a historical move, the film marks the company’s first time ever casting a Black lead in an animated picture.
Foxx’s character Joe is a jazz teacher and musician who has just gotten the biggest break of his career — right before he unexpectedly dies. Joe then travels into an unknown land known as the “Great Before,” an abstract space where “new souls get their personalities, quirks and interests before they go to Earth.” Determined to get his old life back when he makes his return, Joe links up with another soul, 22 (voiced by Tina Fey), as he makes his way through the afterlife.
The movie is directed by Pete Docter, president of Pixar and the director of Inside Out. Other members of the cast include Phylicia Rashad, Questlove and Daveed Diggs.
