Maison Mihara Yasuhiro Deconstructs Chunky Sandal-Sneaker Hybrid
A playful footwear mashup.
Following its snowboard binding-inspired sandals from last year, Maison Mihara Yasuhiro has returned with a brand new sandal silhouette, this time emboldened with a hybrid sneaker concept. Instead of having a sandal’s usual open-toe design, the silhouette comes with a forefoot that’s completely covered in sneaker form, whereas the rear half of the silhouette remains open — featured is the Half Sandals in three distinctive colorways of “Orange,” “Gray” and “Black.”
Starting at the back of the silhouette is a cushioned neoprene heel support, equipped with ballistic velcro straps that wrap around both the front and back of the ankles. Stretching from the heel, the straps cross over to the sneaker-half of the shoe at the forefoot, with the addition of another adjustable velcro closure layered over the throatline. The forefoot sees a short, stubby padded tongue, complemented by flat laces and ridged rubber eyelet panels. Furthermore, smooth full-grain leather frames the toebox, while a textured snakeskin panel is placed at the mudguards. All of these details sit atop a translucent full-length midsole that’s been equipped with an impact-resistant air cushioning system for optimal comfort and stability.
The Maison Mihara Yasuhiro Half Sandals are currently available at SSENSE’s website for $565 USD.
Most recently, Maison Mihara Yasuhiro has unveiled a bold rendition of its OG Sole Sneakers decorated with black dye.
