Kevin Durant Tests Positive for Coronavirus
Along with three other Brooklyn Nets players.
Kevin Durant confirmed that he is one of the four Brooklyn Nets players to test positive for the coronavirus (COVID-19).
The Nets organization initially withheld the names in the announcement, but the NBA star spoke to Shams Charania of The Athletic, saying, “Everyone be careful, take care of yourself and quarantine. We’re going to get through this.” Charania further affirmed that KD is not the player experiencing symptoms. It’s still unknown as to how or who he contracted the virus from, seeing as he’s been out this whole season due to a torn Achilles tendon.
In a press release from the Nets, the organization shared that it is reaching out to other individuals who have interacted with the players in recent times:
“The organization is currently notifying anyone who has had known contact with the players, including recent opponents, and is working closely with state and local health authorities on reporting. All players and members of the Nets travel party are being asked to remain isolated, closely monitor their health and maintain constant communication with team medical staff. The health of our players and staff is of the highest priority to the organization and the team is doing everything within its power to ensure that those affected receive the best care possible.”
The NBA now has a total of seven COVID-19 positive players, namely Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell of the Utah Jazz and Detroit Pistons forward Christian Wood. Gobert’s testing last week prompted the league to suspend the 2019 – 2020 season, although it is hopeful for a return in mid or late June.
Elsewhere in sports, the 2020 Tokyo Olympics will push through as scheduled.
