Instagram Working on Disappearing Direct Messages
Another Snapchat-like feature may be coming to Instagram.

Instagram is reportedly working on a feature similar to Snapchat that will automatically delete messages. A reverse engineering specialist discovered the feature looking through the code of Instagram’s Android app, where she found a code labeled with a “speak no evil” emoji.
The feature was demonstrated by the specialist in the tweet below, which showcases a dark mode messaging window via the Instagram Direct thread. When the dark mode chat window closes however, the messages sent will disappear. Upon discovery, Instagram messaged the engineer, stating, “We’re always exploring new features to improve your messaging experience. This feature is still in early development and not testing externally just yet.”
Not only has this feature been around in some form or fashion on Snapchat, but Instagram’s patent company, Facebook, also tried to copy the formula via its own ephemeral messaging app Slingshot before cutting it a year later.
Even Twitter is going the same route with its upcoming “Fleets” feature.
