Fresh off a cherry-topped Melody Ehsani collaboration, Jordan Brand‘s Air Jordan OG has appeared in a classic “University Blue” colorway. A nod to Michael Jordan‘s collegiate days with the UNC Tar Heels, “University Blue” brings familiar stylings to the first Air Jordan silhouette designed specifically for women.
Originally released in 1998, the Air Jordan OG takes heavy inspiration from the Air Jordan 13 with its use of pockmarked tumbled leather and boldly shaped midsoles. High-cut uppers are crafted from white leather and use abstract-shaped overlay pieces surrounded by thick piping. This choice of layered embellishment deceives the eye ever so slightly, making the overlays look like the base layer and vice versa when viewed from certain angles.
“University Blue” accents are dispersed throughout, appearing on the collar trim and around the outsoles as well as on the Air Jordan 14-style tongue badge, which is complete with a Jumpman logo. “Midnight Navy” gets into the mix by way of a debossed Jumpman on the midsole and an embroidered iteration on the heel — the latter of which sits above a “W” crown graphic, nodding to women’s influence on the game of basketball. A plastic midfoot shank with a Jordan text hit completes the look.
The Air Jordan OG “University Blue” will release on Nike CN come April 2, and is priced at $140 USD. Although it’s indeed a women’s shoe, it’ll be available in an extended size run for male hoopers as well.
