Spotify Honors Nujabes With Shibuya Crossing Video Tribute & Curated Playlists
The “Pray for Nujabes” tribute ran for thirty minutes on six screens in the iconic intersection.
On the evening of February 26, 2020, Tokyo’s Shibuya Crossing lit up with a video dedicated to Nujabes (real name Jun Seba), who tragically passed away on the day ten years prior. Put together by Spotify, the three-minute video titled, “Pray for Nujabes,” was showcased ten times on six massive screens at the iconic intersection, with the spiritually-aligned beats of Seba echoing throughout the streets.
Alongside the streetside display, Spotify also enlisted editor, DJ, and producer Toru Hashimoto to curate two playlists in honor of the late legend. The first of the playlists, titled “Pray for Nujabes,” features 30 tracks from the iconic producer, with Hashimoto sharing “You’re a flower, You’re a river, You’re a rainbow — Rest In Peace.” The second playlist, titled “This is Nujabes,” taps into tracks from Metaphorical Music, Modal Soul, Spiritual State, Luv(sic) Hexalogy, the Samurai Champloo OST, and more.
