Jhené Aiko Announces New Album 'Chilombo'
Sharing the 20-song tracklist featuring Future, H.E.R., Ab-Soul, Nas, and more.
After dropping a variety of singles over the past several months, Jhené Aiko has now announced her forthcoming album, titled Chilombo, will release on March 6 via Def Jam Recordings. Chilombo marks the follow-up to 2017’s Trip which ran a staggering 85-minutes in length.
The title of the album comes from the R&B songstress’ full name — Jhené Aiko Efuru Chilombo — meaning “wild beast.” For the album, Aiko took inspiration from Hawaii’s volcanoes and freestyled much of the lyrical content in the tropical paradise before recording. She also added crystal alchemy singing bowls to the tracks that emphasize her relationship with sound healing therapy. Aiko further describes the album as a “time-lapse of an unassuming volcano erupting gracefully with it’s lava flowing freely… settling and creating new land and new life.”
On Chilombo — which features a 20-song tracklist — Future, Big Sean, Miguel, Ab-Soul, H.E.R., Nas, John Legend, Ty Dolla $ign, and her father Dr. Chill have all lent their talents.
