Persol's '60s Classic 649 Model Gets Revived With A.P.C.'s Minimal Parisian-Chic Touch
Available in three retro-tinged colorways.
Heritage eyewear imprint Persol has debuted its first collaboration in half a century with three pairs of 649 Model sunglasses developed alongside Parisian mainstay A.P.C.
Spotlighted in a Sam Rock-shot lookbook, the Spring/Summer 2020 collection shows three retro-influenced takes on the iconic 649 Model — a pair that was originally designed in 1957 for tram-drivers in Torino, Italy.
Since then, the 649 has become a Hollywood star-staple, having been worn by Marcello Mastroianni in the 1961 movie Divorce, Italian Style. Persol’s silver screen debut launched the 649’s legacy, which has been respected in this soon-coming A.P.C. collaboration. The French label delivers three iterations — white, brown and khaki — which all sport Persol’s moniker on the right lens, fade-tinted lenses, and various unique design details.
The frame is a famed design, known for its keyhole section, unique brow line, and iconic round shaped. The arms are trimmed with gold-toned metal bands and an intricate joint decoration, which can be seen inside the arms on both the brown and khaki offerings.
Take a look at the A.P.C. x Persol SS20 collection in the galleries above — which see A.P.C. founder Jean Touitou, musician Sky Ferreira, and singer Joseph Mount from the band Metronomy wearing the limited-edition styles. All three pairs are available at A.P.C. stores and online, as well as Persol’s webstore today for $370 USD each.
