Summary

The 30th A.P.C. QUILTS collection draws its patterns from the tiled entrance steps of Victorian houses in Brighton

Designs were built by photographing the tilework from multiple angles, printing the images, then cutting and reassembling them as collage

The release continues the ongoing quilt partnership between A.P.C. and British designer Jessica Ogden

A.P.C. and Jessica Ogden are back with the 30th edition of A.P.C. QUILTS, the pair’s long-running textile series, and this chapter finds its starting point on the English coast. The collection grew out of walks along the Brighton seaside, where the tiled doorstep steps of Victorian-era homes, each carrying its own distinct pattern, became the unlikely source material for a new run of quilts.

The QUILTS project has been one of the quieter but more enduring threads in A.P.C.‘s catalog, a recurring collaboration with Jessica Ogden that reframes the quilt as a canvas for craft and reuse rather than a seasonal throw. Ogden, a British designer with deep roots in patchwork and hand-driven construction, has long treated the medium as a way to salvage and recombine, and her sensibility has given the series a consistency that survives across its many installments. Founded by Jean Touitou, A.P.C. has always positioned itself around a certain restraint and material honesty, which makes Ogden’s tactile, improvisational approach a natural counterpoint within the house.

For this installment, that recombinant instinct turns toward architecture. Ogden and A.P.C. looked to the mosaic tilework set into the entrance stairs of Brighton’s Victorian houses, a detail most passersby overlook, and treated the individuality of each home’s pattern as a design library. The process was deliberately mediated rather than literal: the tiles were photographed from various angles, those images printed, and the printed patterns then cut apart and reconstructed into collage. The finished quilts read as an abstraction of an abstraction, translating hand-laid Victorian geometry through the lens of the camera and the scissors.

That method sits comfortably within the series’ established logic, where found visual information gets fragmented and rebuilt into something new. By sourcing from the domestic thresholds of a specific English town, the 30th chapter grounds itself in place while keeping the collage-driven approach that has defined the collaboration, extending a body of work that has steadily accumulated its own visual language over three decades of editions.

The 30th A.P.C. QUILTS collection releases July 31 at select A.P.C. stores and the brand’s online store.
