Fusing vintage hand-woven textiles with classic U.S. Army iconography.
Continuing to blend Eastern and Western silhouettes and a pacifist approach to military-grade design, London-based maharishi now explores the uniforms worn by the mountainous hill tribes of the Vietnamese Highlands for Fall/Winter 2020.
Comprising modified MA-1 bombers, utility vests and M65 cargo pants, garments have been experimented with in ways in which military uniforms – designed to avoid individualism – are customized and humanised by indigenous people. The Kilim Stripe Cotton Powerloom features vintage hand-woven textiles that have been fused with the classic U.S. Army iconography.
The capsule also pays homage to Francis Ford Coppola’s legendary Apocalypse Now which popularized the Vietnemese hill tribes after Dennis Hopper, playing a photojournalist, disappears into the mountains where he finds an eye-catching hill tribe embroidered shirt, a garment reproduced for FW20 in a crushed hemp.
