AWAKE NY and ASICS' GEL-PRELEUS Dares to Be Bold
Fitted with a leopard print upper, silver leather overlays, lime green and blue detailing, and a technical sole unit.
Angelo Baque‘s label AWAKE NY and ASICS began their friendship back in the summer of 2019, and now the duo is back with its latest collaborative sneaker dubbed the GEL-PRELEUS.
Following on from its GEL-KAYANO 5 360 — which HYPEBEAST crowned as one of the best sneakers of 2019 — AWAKE NY takes an even bolder approach this time around with its new GEL-PRELEUS. Whereas the previous collaboration combined colors such as grey with green and black with gold with a mix of luxurious suede and mesh, the new sneaker takes on a more technical aesthetic thanks to its mix of synthetic textiles and choice of colors.
The upper’s base is made from grey mesh that’s covered with an all-over grayscale leopard print, while silver leather has been used to overlay the base with ASICS’s signature branding motif. Joining this is a splash of blue and neon green which takes form on a textured panel on the medial and lateral, with this continuing to the front of the shoe.
The toe comes to a point and is highlighted by two silver leather panels that work their way over the toe box and up the vamp, forming the eyestay placket, while a similar silver leather piece is found at the rear alongside GEL-PRELEUS and ASICS embroidery.
As with many of ASICS’ sneakers, the midsole is also a detailed talking point of the shoe. It’s cut in a wavy, OG-like shape that’s sectioned by its combination of off white and metallic silver details that lead the eye to the rear. There, you’ll find a lime green GEL unit that provides all of the shoe’s comfort and cushioning alongside an Advanced High Abrasion Rubber (AHAR) outsole.
Embroidered ASICS branding on the lateral-side collar and AWAKE NY’s stamp on the lateral toe in black rounds out the collaborative pair.
The AWAKE NY x ASICS GEL-PRELEUS is due to release on AWAKE NY’s website on December 11 at 11 a.m. EST for €150 EUR (approx. $180 USD). Take a closer look at the collaborative sneaker above.
