Nike Adapt Auto Max Is Back in Black
A monochromatic colorway for the high-tech, self-lacing sneaker.
First powered up on Air Max Day 2020, Nike‘s self-lacing Adapt Auto Max has since released in several colors, the latest of which is a stark all-black makeup. Monochromatic in build, the simple-yet-effective style puts the Adapt Auto Max’s unique shape and potent power lacing tech on full display, letting the design speak louder than the hues.
Key to the Adapt Auto Max’s self-lacing technology is a small motor embedded in the thick midsole. The placement of this powerhouse piece is pointed to by the midsole’s duo of lights, which feature customizable colors controlled by the wearer’s iPhone, Apple Watch or Android device. Of course, the wearer can do more than just customize the light colors: from the same app on their phone, they’re able to tighten or loosen the shoes — which, in a pinch, can be done manually by pressing the lights themselves — and set “fit profiles” suitable for various athletic activities or casual wear.
Tech aside, the remainder of the shoe’s bottom half includes an Air Max 1-inspired heel unit for a nod to Air Max heritage and an elongated heel piece that extends beyond the back of the shoe before creeping up onto the upper. Made mostly of neoprene, the upper blends black tones both matte and sleek, keeping branding minimal with Swooshes on the lateral and medial quarters as well as the lateral side of the aforementioned heel piece. Heel tabs with hi-vis reflective detailing and white insole graphics complete the look.
The Nike Adapt Auto Max in black is available now on the Nike CN webstore, and is priced at $400 USD. A US release will likely follow in the coming weeks.
