Tame Impala Covers John Lennon's "Jealous Guy" in Honor of Late Beatle's 80th Birthday

Legendary Beatle‘s member John Lennon would be celebrating his 80th birthday today (October 9) had it not been for his tragic murder in December 1980. In honor of the occasion, Lennon’s son and fellow musician Sean Lennon enlisted Tame Impala to help him celebrate his father’s special day. While Sean gave a moving performance of his own on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, singing the fitting “Isolation” — a perfect selection given the ongoing coronavirus quarantine — Kevin Parker created a stripped back rendition of “Jealous Guy.”
Kevin Parker performed the 1971 track sock-less and from the comfort of his oversized bed with just an acoustic guitar. It’s simply the perfect vibe for anyone’s Friday afternoon. Early on in his career, back when the music world still considered Tame Impala to be full-fledged band and not the creation of a solo artist, Parker’s singing voice was often compared to Lennon’s. He told The Sydney Morning Herald in 2014, “I was speaking to Sean Lennon and he told me I sound like his dad. So I guess if anyone’s going to tell me I sound like John Lennon I guess he’s the one with some sort of authority on it.”
You can compare Parker and Lennon’s styles below. Watch the video on Tame Impala’s Instagram, too. In more music updates, Lykke Li teamed up with Ludwig Göransson for her first Swedish-language song “BRON” to hold fans over while she works on her upcoming project.
