According to reports, Sony will be optimizing its upcoming PlayStation 5‘s internal fan with online updates. In a recent interview translated by ResetEra user orzkare and Eurogamer, Sony’s VP of mechanical design Yasuhiro Ootori said the company will optimize the fan control based on data from the Accelerated Processing Unit (APU)’s behavior in each title.

According to Otori: “Various games will be released in the future, and data on the APU’s behaviour in each game will be collected. We have a plan to optimise the fan control based on this data.” Revealed in a recent teardown of the upcoming system, the white panels on the console can be lifted off to reveal the main cooling fan, which draws air from either side. Inside the console is an APU that utilizes a temperature sensor. The mainboard also uses three temperature sensors to control the speed of the fan, which is what will be altered in future updates.

“When a game with a high load continues for a long time, it is possible to increase the rotation amount of the fan and enhance the cooling performance even at the expense of quietness,” Otyori explains.

In other gaming news, Sony recently revealed the PS5’s new user interface.
