Awake NY, Cactus Plant Flea Market, Denim Tears and More Team Up For Third Social Studies Event
After being held at Miami Art Basel in 2017 and NYC in 2018, the creative conglomeration helmed by Awake NY’s Angelo Baque and friends is moving online.

After being held during Miami Art Basel in 2017 and coming to NYC in 2018, Social Studies — the multi-disciplinary culture festival with panels, programming and product — is moving online in 2020. Though the third edition of Social Studies will not have an in-person aspect due to the ever-present danger of the coronavirus, it’s still packed with industry heavy-hitters, talks and more, all over the course of two days.
Participants include Awake NY‘s Angelo Baque, Fear of God‘s Jerry Lorenzo, Union founder Chris Gibbs, Tremaine Emory of Denim Tears and No Vacancy Inn, Shaniqwa Jarvis, Paulo “Wallo” Calle and many others. Live events include discussions on sincerity in design and a “How I Made It” round table plus more.
There’s also a product aspect, centered around a special Cactus Plant Flea Market-designed T-shirt with an “Each 1 Teach 1” graphic on the front and a wide swath of brand logos on the back, ranging from Awake NY to Melody Ehsani. All proceeds from the shirt will be donated to the ACLU and Freedom March NYC.
Head over to the Social Studies website to check out the discussions and shop a selection of books plus the CPFM T-shirt.
Elsewhere, LeBron James‘ Springhill Entertainment is working on a documentary about the Black Wall Street massacre.
