Shoe Palace x ASICS GEL-Lyte XXX Celebrates Japanese Culture
Drawing inspiration from Japan’s World Cup jerseys, GEL-Lyte III designer Shigeyuki Mitsui, and Kendo, the “way of the sword.”

Shoe Palace and ASICS are celebrating Japanese culture with a new GEL-Lyte XXX collaboration. 2020 marks the 30th anniversary of ASICS’ influential GEL-Lyte III, so the West Coast footwear retailer and Japanese shoe brand are looking to key Japanese inspiration points as divergent as Japan’s World Cup jerseys, GEL-LYTE III designer Shigeyuki Mitsu and kendo, the Japanese “way of the sword.”
Dressed in red, white and blue (the colors of the aforementioned World Cup jerseys), the upper of Shoe Palace’s GEl-LYTE XXX uses modern-day fused overlays and synthetic materials, but looks back to its GEL-Lyte III roots with an ultra-thin Nexkin split tongue plus classic suede and mesh embellishments. Heels boast interchangeable Velcro patches that can be swapped to read either “ASICS” or “93” and blue rope laces are flecked with white for extra style.
Insoles show off tonal flame graphics and Shoe Palace’s signature “93 Shield.” Moving to the shoe’s lower half, midsoles are made up of modern-day FlyteFoam and boast a large iridescent heel clip. Two-tone red and blue outsoles complete the style.
The Shoe Palace x ASICS GEL-Lyte XXX will release exclusively at Shoe Palace on October 16. The MSRP is set at $150 USD.
