Watch Freddie Gibbs' Latest Music Video "Babies & Fools" Featuring Conway The Machine
Another standout single from his and The Alchemist’s ‘Alfredo’ project gets a visual treatment.
Freddie Gibbs is back with his latest visual from his critically-acclaimed collaborative album with The Alchemist, Alfredo. On “Babies & Fools,” Gibbs tapped veteran Griselda emcee Conway The Machine for a memorable guest spot, who’s fresh off his own personable best with From King To A God.
“Babies & Fools” skips out on the narrative structure found in Gibbs’ episodic “Frank Lucas” and “Scottie Beam”. This go around, he and Conway connect for a lo-fi near night-vision display shot in a Miami strip-club. The two rap about all of the sacrifices they both made in order to celebrate in the present. The track is among the many reasons the album was featured in our “25 Best Albums of 2020… So Far” round-up.
The recurring theme of fatherhood hits throughout Alfredo and especially on “Babies & Fools.” Freddie told HYPEBEAST in our “Freddie Gibbs’ Name Holds Weight” feature, “Being a father changed the way I rap because I used to rap like I ain’t have nothing to lose. Now I have everything in the world to lose because I have beautiful children and a good family structure,” he said. “My daughter’s special. My son is special, man.” He continued, “This is the legacy that I’m leaving, f*ck all of this rap shit, like that’s great and all, but I want my kids to be like, ‘My dad was a stand up guy. He stood up for us.’”
