Nike Updates Mercurial Dream Speed With Football-Inspired Graphics

Nike has unveiled the latest installment of its Mercurial Dream Speed football boot, designing the silhouette for the game’s quickest players. The boot features a series of wave patterns across the upper — referencing the speed influence — while other details are subtle nods to the sport itself.

The dotted pattern on the boot is a nod to formations used by winning teams, while a waved grid pattern brings to mind the rippling effect made by the net when a goal is scored. Other features include a translucent plate and fluorescent coloring around the Swoosh itself. Lastly, the boot is finished with a Safari print, celebrating 10 years since the pattern was first used on a football boot.

The Nike Mercurial Dream Speed 3 will be worn on pitch by some of the game’s fastest players including Cristiano Ronaldo, Kylian Mbappé and Sam Kerr. Announcing the new boots, Ronaldo said, “These boots are all about chasing your dreams and doing whatever you can to achieve them. One bit of advice I have for everyone to think about if you wear these boots: work hard and think big, and your dreams can come true.”
