Wisdom and Illustrator Ming Yu Team Up for Military-Inspired Holiday Collection
With smiley face motifs throughout.

Technical brand Wisdom continues to focus on functional style through the release of its new holiday collection, titled “WISE BUT TROUBLED.” The collection primarily focuses on military-inspired gear but adds a subtle playful touch thanks to the illustration work of artist, costume designer and advertising art director Ming Yu. Presented in army green and black tonal looks, the collection features a mix of outerwear and pants alongside Hoka’s recently-released boots.
Wisdom uses functional fabrics that are windproof, warm and lightweight throughout the collection to emphasize each piece’s tactility. Many of the garments are loosely tailored and feature multiple storage configurations, including a technical jacket with four oversized pockets at the front and the brand’s interpretation of cargo pants.
Yu lends his hand in subtle areas throughout the collection, mainly in the form of labels printed with smiley faces and small pins. The smiley faces appear to carry a variety of expressions at once, with an “x” and heart shapes for eyes, a crooked smile and an exposed tongue. The smiley motifs are meant to pose a juxtaposition to Wisdom’s military gear, as smiley faces are typically symbols that represent love and peace. Yu has also covered Wisdom’s brand logo with hand-drawn graffiti.
Pieces from the “WISE BUT TROUBLED” are currently available over on Wisdom’s web store.
