Valee Indulges in Clever Bars With New Single "Not Playin"
Coming through with a new flow.
Valee is showing no signs of slowing down. Off the heels of his “Jay Leno” video that we saw back in November last year, the Chicago rapper is already back, this time with new visuals to accompany his single “Not Playin.”
The G.O.O.D. Music signee broke onto the scene with his 2018 EP GOOD Job, You Found Me. Since then, he’s been known for his inventive flows and witty lyricism, often executed over a nuanced beat. It’s a style so distinct that other rappers in the game immediately made attempts to incorporate it into their own sound after first hearing it. But Valee’s songs still sound fresh to the ear. Rapping over a nocturnal mid-tempo beat, he indulges in braggadocious bars in “Not Playin.” The instrumental was produced by Plu2o Nash, packing bouncy 808s, quiet hi-hats and glitchy synths. Clocking in at one minute and 46 seconds, in signature Valee manner, the rapper comes through with a steady flow that slips into a deep pocket, complemented by interesting rhymes. Notable quotes like “I got some loud doe, b**** sound like ODB / I’m rockin’ St. Laurent, hope she notice me” or “My seats look like ice cream n****, Oberweis / I’m still up off yesterday, that’s older geek.”
