Detailed Look: Nike Air Max 90 "Chinese New Year"
A standout silhouette from Nike’s extensive “Year of the Rat” pack.
Nike‘s 2020 Chinese New Year pack is nothing short of extensive — spanning everything from the Air Jordan 1 Low to the Air Max 1 and more — but one of the most notable pairs is a regal Air Max 90. Crafted for the “Year of the Rat,” this 90 retains its signature sporty style but adds elegant traditional flair, making for an artful creation that provides a clear nod to its inspirations.
The homage-filled design is centered around four shades: classic white and black plus regal red and metallic gold. White is the most heavily used of this quartet, appearing on the upper’s mesh base layer and main smooth leather overlay. Black takes the reins on the top set of eyestays and the mudguard, the latter of which features a CNY-centric debossed pattern.
Red is only called upon for the inner tongue, insole and eyestays on the top half, but metallic gold makes its presence felt in regal fashion. It’s swathed across Swooshes, the midfoot window and the heel badge alike, and also appears on the special “2020” graphic present on the tongue tag and insole. Down below, a red and white EVA foam midsole encases a gold Air Max unit and a black/red outsole completes the look.
The Nike Air Max 90 “Chinese New Year” is available now via Nike CN for a retail price of ¥899 CNY (approximately $130 USD).
