TDE's Reason Premieres New Visual for "Show Stop"
Top Dawg Entertainment’s Carson, California signee shows off his charisma and kung-fu skills.
Top Dawg Entertainment is sure to have a major 2020 campaign, hinting at Kendrick Lamar‘s forthcoming studio album while mainstays like Isaiah Rashad and SZA continue to keep fans on their toes. Next up is TDE’s latest signee, Carson, California rapper Reason. After some inner-team vocal sparring of verses with Ab-Soul for the hypnotic “Flick It Up,” Reason returns with his new music video for “Show Stop.”
“I’m excited for this release because this is my first real release from TDE. Everything before this was work already done before signing so I’m just excited for everybody to see the growth,” Reason told HYPEBEAST through a press statement. “Headed into my debut project with the camp, I’m ready for everybody to finally get to hear what we’ve been working so hard on perfecting. It’s been hours and hours of energy and soul poured into what’s coming over the next few months! Last but not least I wanna give a huge shout out to Kendrick Lamar for adding his ad libs on this record and taking it over the top! Reason Season is here!”
Directed by HaitianEv with executive production from Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith, “Show Stop” finds Reason floating over the beat as he contemplates the contradiction of staying true to his roots, coming from nothing, and fighting the temptation to get money and say goodbye to trying to be a “woke” rapper. “I’ll be rich when dust all settle/ Fam be rich and don’t got pedal/ I can’t leave where I’m from, the ghetto/ Bucket under leaks when it rain, the ghetto/ I can’t leave where I’m from, I promise/ I can’t not have chain or diamonds/ I cannot bank account all commas,” he raps intercut with complimentary Kendrick Lamar “K.Dot” ad-libs.
