After months of teasers and collaborations with the likes of RIMOWA, Shawn Stussy and Jordan Brand, Dior has finally released its collaborative collection with the New York-based artist Daniel Arsham.
The Spring/Summer 2020 capsule is comprised of various wardrobe staples, from the grey taffeta hooded blouson and the eroded Dior oblique jacquard T-shirt to accessories such as the calfskin zip key charm, the white-finish pant chain, a selection of rings and bracelets, caps and even a pair of B23 sneakers.
Daniel Arsham’s take on the B23 sneaker incorporates the newspaper print now synonymous with Kim Jones‘ direction for Dior, which is subsequently found on other pieces including shirts and a long-sleeve roll-neck top. The collection is indebted in eroded designs that were created to reference Arsham’s signature process, seeing the house logo, the “CD” monogram and more get the excavated treatment.
Elsewhere, there are nods to some of the artist’s most iconic works with necklaces sporting baseball caps, charms incorporating basketballs into the design, and old school telephones. There’s another nod to the invitation Arsham created for the Dior SS20 show, which was inspired by Christian Dior’s original biography from 1951, while a collection of silk scarves rounds out the extensive drop.
