Abby Jasmine Enlists Xanman for the Comic Book-Inspired "On My Way" Visual
Saving the city as costumed crusader ‘Dat B*tch.’
Abby Jasmine premieres her latest visual for “On My Way,” the standout single from her 4-track I Hate You All EP released back in November. Directed by longtime collaborator Michael Smiegel over the course of 3 days in Baltimore, Maryland, the comic book-inspired music video sees Abby boast her superhero skills as ‘Dat B*tch’ as she struggles to balance saving the city with being in a committed relationship. Xanman makes an appearance as her number one fan in a TV interview turned auto-tuned feature.
“The inspiration for this song actually came from a Cher interview I had seen online,” Abby tells HYPEBEAST. “She spoke about how her mother told her that she should settle down and marry a rich man, to which she replied ‘mom, I am a rich man.’ And I felt that [laughs]. So that inspired the lyrics, ‘Rich n*gga? Why would I need one when I’m rich, n*gga?’ Shout out to f*ckin’ Cher for dropping gems.”
On enlisting a feature from fellow DMV artist Xanman, Abby continued, “After I heard “Gucci Down,” I really f*cked with Xanman and it wasn’t that hard to get him on the song cause we’re signed to the same label so, being the Cinematic Princess I made some calls and got it done [laughs]. Originally, I wasn’t even going to do a video for this song ’cause it wasn’t one of my favorites but everyone just loved it so much that it actually made me love it too.”
