Mixcloud Announces New Livestreaming Feature for DJs, Artists & Audio Creators
Allowing “artists who get played to get paid.”
Following club closures around the world, Mixcloud has announced a new livestreaming platform called Mixcloud Live. Mixcloud Live allows creators to livestream DJ mixes, radio shows and long-form audio, while engaging with fans via a live chat during the current lock-down measures. A new feature integrated into the brand’s SELECT program allows creators to earn income from their fans who support the channel for a small monthly contribution.
The announcement comes after DJs have complained of copyright takedown notices on their livestreams, as streams are done on licensed platforms that pay royalties to the proper rights holder. For many DJs, artists, night clubs and festivals, live events are also the majority of their income. Mixcloud allows audio creators to livestream, archive audio and generate income — all via a legal and licensed platform. “We hope that Mixcloud Live brings a little more fun — and maybe some dancing — into your home,” says Nico Perez, Co-Founder of Mixcloud. “Particularly at this time when the world is socially distant, and we all need to feel a bit closer.”
In respond to COVID-19, Mixcloud is also pushing a New Systems initiative that helps audio creators build a more sustainable feature. This includes waiving fees on SELECT and offering extended 90-day trials of Mixcloud PRO for new joiners.
