Phillips Auction to Offer Works from Japan's Quico Collection of Nordic Design
At its first online-only auction.
Phillips Auction will host its first online-only design auction, offering over 120 works from Japan’s Quico Collection of Nordic and Scandinavian Design from Harajuku, Tokyo.
The selected works come from the personal collection of the Quico founders, whose curated personal collection aligns with their eye for Nordic and Scandinavian design aesthetics. Featured works include furniture, glassware, rugs, jewelry and lighting by Alvar Aalto, Ilmari Tapiovaara, Tapio Wirkkala, Paavo Tynell, Björn Weckström and more.
Marcus McDonald, the International Specialist of Design at Phillips, spoke about the pieces chosen for the auction:
“It was my pleasure to view [Quico's] Nordic and Scandinavian Design collection, which has such a refined selection of glassworks, including the set of three ‘Apple’ vases by Ingeborg Lundin who was described by the British curator, Leslie Jackson, as the ‘Balenciaga of glass.’ This sale – the first of its kind at Phillips – will offer everyone the opportunity to bid on exceptional works with exceptional estimates and we look forward to welcoming all guests to see the collection in person in our New York galleries.”
View the Quico collection at Phillips’ Park Avenue gallery in New York from September 16 to 22. The auction will occur from September 16 to 25.
In other art news, Malmaison by The Hour Glass will host the exhibition “Then Now Beyond,” featuring original works by Daniel Arsham, Marc Newson, nendo and more.
